Breast Reduction stages
The doctor examines the breast area and determines the technique used to reduce the size of the breast, according to each patient’s individual condition, breast composition, amount of reduction desired, and the final agreed-upon shape.
The patient undergoes a blood test, and a mammogram is done to ensure the patient’s readiness to undergo the operation.
Once the chest area is sterilized, the patient undergoes general anesthesia.
The doctor makes a certain incision pattern in the breast; like making a circular pattern around the areola, or a keyhole-shaped pattern with an incision around the areola, or an anchor-shaped incision pattern.
Underlying breast tissue is reduced, lifted and shaped, and the nipple is repositioned, The areola is reduced by excising skin at the perimeter, if necessary.
For extremely large pendulous breasts, the nipple and areola may need to be removed and transplanted to a higher position on the breast.
Sutures are layered deep within the breast tissue, in most cases, incision lines will fade and significantly improve over time.
