What is Gastric Sleeve?

Gastric sleeve operation is one of the most popular weight loss procedures, it is a simple and extremely safe surgery, in which a portion of the stomach is removed, that is about 70% of its original size, which reduces the size of the stomach, and helps in reducing the amount of eaten food.

  1. Abstain from all blood diluting drugs, such as; Ibuprofen, and Multi- Vitamine Group, for they contain (A,E), minimum a week before.
  2. Drink plenty of water before the Gastric Sleeve operation.
  3. Abstain from food, for five hours, before Gastric Sleeve surgery.
  4. Abstain from all kinds of stimulants, ten days minimum, as they prevent the anesthesia process.
  5. Get used on exercises for a certain period of time before the surgery. 
  6. Abstain from smoking a month before Gastric Sleeve operation, as it affects Oxygen level which is crucial for the healing process. 
  7. Refrain from natural blood-diluting drinks, such as; green tea, raspberry juice and pineapple.    
  8. Avoid having food that is high in calories or saturated with fat.

Stages of Gastric Sleeve

The person undergoes some safe and simple stages and steps for the gastric sleeve operation to be done, which are summarized as follow:
Step 1: Clinical Examinations
The doctor examines the body of the person who is due to undergo a gastric sleeve operation, and determines the size of the stomach to be removed, according to the person’s weight.
Step 2: Anesthesia
The Anesthesiologist provides general anesthesia to the person, so that the patient does not feel any pain at all.
Step 3:Gastric Sleeve Process
The doctor makes a small and very simple incision in the stomach, where the endoscope is inserted through it, in order to remove part of the stomach.

Post-Gastric Sleeve Instructions

The doctor will dictate you a list of very important tips and instructions that you need to commit to, to get the best results, which are; 

  1. The person should drink plenty of water after gastric sleeve surgery.
  2. Drink fluids exclusively, only in the first week. 
  3. Stay away from drinks that contain gas or sugar.
  4. It is recommended to have nutritional supplements that contain vitamins and calcium for a month after the operation.
  5. Abstain from smoking a month after Gastric Sleeve operation, as it affects Oxygen level which is crucial for the healing process. 
  6. Follow a healthy diet determined by a nutritionist, in order to get a healthy and balanced food that contains proteins.
  7. It is recommended to exercise, two weeks after the gastric sleeve operation.
